Boron C
The data on testosterone and strength are weak and contradictory; the effect is not proven
Citable fact
«Boron» — evidence level C. Dosage: The exact requirement has not been established. In supplements, 3–10 mg per day has been studied; the upper safe level for adults is 20 mg per day. Above that, nausea, rash and headache are possible, and in animal experiments high doses impair reproductive function. Source: PMID 26770156, permanent link to the source in the list below.
How it works
Boron affects steroid metabolism and mineral metabolism; in preclinical models it raised steroid levels and affected bone tissue. In humans the mechanism has not been confirmed.

With food; the time of intake does not matter.
Forms
Boric acid, boron citrate and sodium tetraborate have been studied; there are no proven differences between the forms.
What is confirmed
- In a few small studies it affected markers of steroid metabolism and mineral metabolism
- Participates in bone tissue metabolism in preclinical models
Adverse effects and limitations
- Upper safe level 20 mg per day: above that — nausea, rash, headache
- There are no data on long-term safety in athletes
- In animal experiments, high doses impair reproductive function
- In pregnancy and breastfeeding, supplements are not recommended
Interactions
- Possible effect on estrogen and vitamin D metabolism — the data are incomplete
Who must not use it
- Under 18 years: No data; supplements are not recommended.
- Pregnancy and lactation: Not recommended: there is insufficient safety data.
