Open data

Everything collected in the reference can be taken away as files: sources, supplement reviews, training volumes, foods and exercises. Publication metadata was never typed in by hand — it comes from PubMed E-utilities and is re-checked on every build.

The files are served at plain addresses and need no JavaScript: /data/references.bib, /data/references.ris, /data/references.csv, /data/supplements.csv. They are rebuilt with the site from the same data as the pages.

What is inside

FileWhat is inside
references.json549 publications: title, authors, journal, year, DOI, PMID, evidence level and source type
supplements.json103 supplements: mechanism, dosing for every goal, effects, limits, interactions, sources
training.jsonweekly volume for 10 muscle groups and 5 goals: frequency, load, reps, RIR, cardio, periodisation
exercises.json25 exercises with technique cues
foods.json37 foods broken down by macronutrients
pharmacology.json87 reference cards about substances — 18+ only, with documented risks and no dosing regimens

In total the base holds 207 "supplement × goal" entries with a dose. Where no studies exist for a goal, an honest note stands in place of a number — see the page «Where data is missing».

How to download

  • Reference managers: BibTeX and RIS for all 549 publications. Understood by Zotero, Mendeley and EndNote.
  • Tables: CSV sources and Supplement CSV. UTF-8 with a BOM so that Excel does not break Cyrillic.
  • Machine-readable: JSON files sit at direct addresses such as /content/supplements.json and need no keys or registration.

How to cite

The data are open under the licence CC BY 4.0: use them freely, including in commercial projects, on one condition — credit the source.

Attribution example: "Data: Sport Reference — https://sportreference.online/, licence CC BY 4.0".

What the data do not contain. This is not medical advice and not a guide to use. Levels A/B/C describe the strength of evidence, not the benefit for a particular person. Doses are given for adults and do not replace a consultation with a doctor.

Permanent links

Every source on a review page has its own anchor: you can link to a specific statement rather than a whole article — for example /supplements/creatine-monohydrate/#ref-mifflin1990.
